The Privacy Act 1988 and the Privacy Amendment (Private Sector) Act 2000 regulate the
collection, storage and disclosure of electronic information and records. Organisations
must now comply with the Act and its 10 National Privacy Principles (NPPs). This policy is
consistent with those legislative requirements and applies to Crash Publishing review related activities,
including the Crash Publishing reviewer training and organisational review database, website and
circulation lists for our publications, Quality Bound and the Annual Report.
Collection
Crash Publishing will collect personal information by fair and lawful means without being unreasonably
intrusive. The purpose for the information will be made known at the time of collection
wherever possible.
Use and Disclosure
Crash Publishing will only use or disclose information for the purpose it was intended unless consent
has been obtained from the individual for a secondary use such as a feature in our publications or direct marketing.
Data Quality
Crash Publishing will take all reasonable steps to make sure that the personal information that it holds
is accurate and complete.
Data Security
All reasonable steps will be taken to ensure that information is protected from misuse, loss
and unauthorised access or disclosure. This includes secure network links, virus
protection, confidentiality requirements and internal document and electronic records
control procedures.
Openness
On request Crash Publishing will make known to those individuals the type of personal information
collected and the purpose for which it is used.
Access and Correction
Subject to the exceptions prescribed by the National Privacy Principles or other legislation,
Crash Publishing will provide the individual access to their personal information and allow a
reasonable opportunity to correct any inaccuracies.
Identifiers
Crash Publishing will not use any tax file numbers or other identifiers other than the ABN to identify
any personal information relating to an individual.
Anonymity
Whenever lawful and practicable individuals will be given the option to maintain anonymity.
Sensitive information
Crash Publishing will not collect, use or disclose any personal information which includes sensitive
information (race, religion, political affiliation) or health information without the consent of the individual.
The Crash Publishing database
What type of personal information is held in the Crash Publishing database?
The personal information collected and held by Crash Publishing includes the name and contact
details of company, department or service managers, training attendees, nominated contacts.
How is the database used?
The database is used for training workshop record keeping and for providing relevant information via mailing lists for the Crash Publishing quarterly newsletter, occasional promotions on books/courses and other correspondence.
Does Crash Publishing disclose personal information to third parties?
Crash Publishing does not sell or provide access to contact information to any third parties such as a
mailing houses or direct marketing firms.
Can individuals access their personal information held in the Crash Publishing database?
On request Crash Publishing will make known to individuals the type of personal information collected
and the purpose for which it is used. Subject to the exceptions prescribed by the National
Privacy Principles or other legislation, Crash Publishing will provide individuals with access to their
personal information and allow a reasonable opportunity to correct any inaccuracies.
Individuals can request to be removed from one or more of the Crash Publishing mailing lists.
